i went to the article and read it and listened to the interview. then i came back and read everyones review of the article. i was thinking right on tera, yeah jo, so true sydney, your right leslie, and i so agree holli! i loved reading what everyone thought! i am right there with everyone!

i agree that looking up things that we are interested in is SO much EASIER now with internet then when i first started college. i love when something comes into my head like "whatever happened to the actor that played Atreyu in never ending story" then i look it up and i go into a whole world of knowledge and connections to the film i never thought of before. i love it! it's one of my favorite things besides goodreads that i love about the internet.

i feel like lately adults fuel excuses to kids. it's as if kids now don't have to think of reasons why they don't want to do something, an adult will give them the reasons for them and then excuse them for it. bugs me to no end.

plus look at my grammar! it is idiotic but i know it is. i just don't care when i am writing online. and i think that influences a lot of what young people think. texting is not writing. no matter how fast you make a youngsters hands look on the keyboard.

plus leslie i agree with you about everything that was surrounding the article. it did distract me too. although i was not aware of it until i read what you said. i was listening to the report and reading the article and at the same time looking at the girl in her bedroom and thinking about how the time to be stoned movie promotion was really inappropriate. amazing. how is that reading. i didn't even allow myself the space to comprehend and ponder what i was reading. i was fueled by more than one emotion while i read what the article said.

furthers my belief that reading a book is not the same as reading online. you are not even given time to meditate on the subject you are reading with all that other stuff going on.

when the pen was invented. some schools did not like it. they felt that it would degrade the children's calligraphy. so they made their children continue to write all papers with a pencil. i remember reading about that when i was really young. i was like "whatever." but now i see the merit in that assumption. i would have to agree. but i now find that interesting. it seems that "technological advancements" have in a lot of ways always been taking away from the quality of workmanship. although you can write more with pen and not with as much strain on the hand/wrist. interesting how you can find the good and the bad within any argument.

i think ultimately it comes to the adults effort and the child's efforts.a child only seems to understand the immediate satisfaction where the adult is supposed to guide that child to the long term enlightenment. adults have the experience/retrospect, where the child just has the now. it is up to the parents to set the guidelines and enforce the rules that they feel leads to the betterment of the child. finding the "good"side to what you know is wrong doesn't make it any better. i believe there needs to be a moderation between reading a book and reading online.

this article also helped me understand why in some of the larger forum discussions i felt that people couldn't have really read the book. their comments/discussions were so off base. it was almost as if they hadn't read the book at all....now i am seeing that maybe they haven't.

thanks! i have found certain books actually change me from the inside. i find that i have to reread them every five years to remember what i have changed or had awakened in myself and also so that i can find more things to change or improve on.

That's pretty cool that you read certain books every couple of years. I have never reread a novel from front to back, and I probably should.
