I enjoyed the survival aspects of this book. The beginning was a bit slow at first, but I was intriuged by Pi's viewpoint about zoos and it made me rethink them as insanse asylums for animals... although you do see some zoos that are like that.

One big thing that bothered me was the introduction to Richard Parker. Earlier in the book when Pi's father brings his two children to the tigers cage and instills a fear in them of how dangerous animals can be, the tiger is not Richard Parker and Richard Parker is not mentioned. Then all of a sudden, when the ship sinks, and Pi spots Richard Parker swimming in the ocean, the author assumes you know this name and know that Richard Parker is a tiger. I was confused. It could have been a man from the boat or any other animal by that name. Not a very well illustrated scene for one that should have been one of the most powerful. I went back through the book to find out who Richard Parker was and could not find his earlier character development. Maybe I just missed it, I dont know.

This is the second book of the "Shadow" series that is a branch series of the "Ender" series (Ender's Game). I really like Card's writing style and character development. This book started to become a bit too "narrative move-like" with Achilles becoming the big "villian" and it being impossible to stop him. Good enough though for me to continue on with the series.

This is a "parallel" book of Ender's Game. Basically reaccounting the same events from the first book, but by following a different character and seeing things from his perspective. I had my doubts as to how interested I would be in reading the same story, but Card pulled it off amazingly. There were new details in this story that shocked me and have successfully pulled me in to the "Ender" series. A great book to read after Ender's Game.

This book was recommended by Whompy and even though it is listed under the "young-adult" section of books, I thought it was a very captivating science-fiction story. Strongly developed characters.

I really loved this book. Especially since it revolves around my favorite theme of apocolyptic/post-apocolyptic genres. It could have been 2-3 times longer and I would have still finished it in a week.

Interesting way in which Wright addresses racism... through the life of a killer. I was skeptical of his ability to do it, but thought it was effective.
