Can't breathe, oh no.
I just, what am I, why does this exist and why did I read it? Fuck if I know. When I told my husband the plot to this book, he quoted the Shawshank Redemption (movie). He was like,

I was glad that this was picked for our book club because I wouldn't have read it or stuck with it otherwise. It's nice to branch out. I kind of stopped caring whether or not he would make it out... but that's because I'm cold and heartless. Like spa ...more

The Martian by Andy Weir
"I think this book suffered (for me) from overhype. I had coworkers telling me it was pretty good. I had many people on Sword & Laser saying it was great. I even heard that an astronaut said it was great and technically pretty accurate. There w..." Read more of this review »

“NO reader has ANY obligation to an author, whether it be to leave a review or to write a "constructive" one. I put out a product. You are consumers of that product. Since when does that mean you have to kiss my ass? Hey, I like Pop-Tarts and eat them a few times a year; since when does that mean I'm obligated to support Kellogg's in any way except legally purchasing the Pop-Tarts before I eat them? I wasn't aware that purchasing and consuming a product meant I was under some sort of fucking thrall in which I'm only allowed to either praise the Pop-Tart (which to be honest isn't hard, especially the S'mores flavor) or, if I am going to criticize a flavor, offer a specific and detailed analysis as to why, phrased in as inoffensive and gentle a manner as possible so as not to upset the gentle people at Kellogg's."

“Nothing before you counts," he said. "And I can't even imagine an after."

She shook her head. "Don't."

"What?"

"Don't talk about after."

"I just meant that... I want to be the last person who ever kisses you, too.... That sounds bad, like a death threat or something. What I'm trying to say is, you're it. This is it for me.”
Rainbow Rowell, Eleanor & Park

J.K. Rowling
“There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them.”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

David Nicholls
“She glanced at the other diners, all of them going into their act, and thought is this what it all boils down to? Romantic love, is this all it is, a talent show?”
David Nicholls, One Day

“According to the accounts, which we’ve recorded, there was a motorist driving a blue Ford weaving in and out of the lefthand lane, apparently drunk, and he crashed head-on into your husband’s car. But it seems your husband must have seen the accident coming, for he swerved to avoid a head-on collision, but a piece of machinery had fallen from another car, or truck, and this kept him from completing his correct defensive driving maneuver, which would have saved his life. But as it was, your husband’s much heavier car turned over several times, and still he might have survived, but an oncoming truck, unable to stop, crashed into his car, and again the Cadillac spun over . . . and then . . . it caught on fire.”
V.C. Andrews, Flowers in the Attic
