          <body><![CDATA[Wow.<br/>At the time that I went to see LeGuin speak in the early nineties, I had read The Lathe of Heaven, the Earthsea books, and a collection of essays.           <body><![CDATA[Hooray! Patience paid off. The library copy of Catching Fire that I had been waiting for since September (having joined the list in July) finally arrived, just in time for me to take it with me on vacation. It was a perfect reward for a solid month of writing.<br/>In any case, it was worth the wait...<a href="http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/Hooray!%20Patience%20paid%20off.%20The%20library%20copy%20of%20Catching%20Fire%20that%20I%20had%20been%20waiting%20for%20since%20September%20(having%20joined%20the%20list%20in%20July)%20finally%20arrived,%20just%20in%20time%20for%20me%20to%20take%20it%20with%20me%20on%20vacation.%20It%20was%20a%20perfect%20reward%20for%20a%20solid%20month%20of%20writing.%0D%0AIn%20any%20case,%20it%20was%20worth%20the%20wait.%20It's%20as%20good%20if%20not%20better%20than%20the%20first%20book.%20My%20only%20complaint%20about%20Hunger%20Games%20was%20the%20wait-for-the-sequel%20ending,%20especially%20since%20I%20couldn't%20figure%20out%20where%20a%20sequel%20would%20go.%20Many%20series%20are%20just%20stretched%20out%20for%20the%20sake%20of%20selling%20more%20books,%20with%20no%20real%20action%20happening%20in%20the%20middle,%20or%20with%20the%20middle%20serving%20only%20as%20a%20placeholder%2Fsetup%20for%20whatever%20comes%20next;%20others%20are%20content%20to%20just%20hit%20the%20same%20notes%20in%20every%20book,%20and%20give%20the%20reader%20a%20reinterpretation%20of%20the%20same%20things%20that%20satisfied%20them%20about%20the%20first.%20%20Happily,%20Catching%20Fire%20is%20nothing%20like%20that.%20It%20explores%20more%20of%20Panem,%20goes%20into%20themes%20and%20problems%20hinted%20at%20in%20the%20first%20book,%20and%20propels%20the%20plot%20forward%20in%20a%20big%20way.%20%20The%20main%20characters%20are%20still%20well-motivated%20and%20complex,%20though%20some%20of%20the%20peripheral%20characters%20are%20a%20bit%20stock.%20The%20new%20twists%20are%20nail-biters.%20My%20only%20regret%20is%20that%20I%20have%20to%20wait%20a%20year%20for%20the%20next%20book.%20">more...</a>]]></body>
