I didn't like this book. It just wasn't enjoyable, and at the end I felt it wasn't all that insightful. Enright is investigating how undependable our own memories are, how it can be as difficult to construct our own histories as it is to truly understand the histories of our parents. Because of this, it can be difficult to put together the real narrative.
I don't mind reading difficult books, but I want there to be a payoff for them, and I didn't feel there was in this book. I didn't like or care about any of the characters, and the main concept was not executed in a way that made the book an intriguing read. It won a Booker, so clearly others have enjoyed it, but it was hard for me to get to the end....less

"I wept at the end of this book. Gorgeous love story, as well as a tribute to the power of the written word.
