Yeah...no. I read about 75 pages and quit. I rarely quit a book but this was just awful. I didn't like the characters or the "plot". I thought that the protagonist's actions/reactions were contrived. Chick lit...aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!! It was a book club pick. I can honestly say that I would have never, ever chosen this book on my own but, to my chagrin, I was very pleasantly surprised. It's the fastest read ever - I chewed through it in about 7 hours - and the subject matter is decidedly chick-lit. Giffin redeems herself by throwing in so many red-herrings that I ended up being totally unable to predict what was going to happen (which I pretentiously thought I would be able to do). At one point I actually exclaimed OUT LOUD "well, I didn't see THAT coming..." I loved it. Bought it to see what the hype was about and chewed through it in about two days. I had a couple of complaints about Bella's maturity level (unbelievable in parts, regardless of the author's explanation of "why") but it was thoroughly enjoyable and a new, unique take on vampire mythology. Meyer's writing is at once easy and captivating. I was especially drawn in by her description of Edward's skin sparkling in the sun. A quick read, Merrill Markoe's latest is a funny take on one woman's disasterous life and how she makes the most of it. The dog "conversations" are hysterical - probably the best part of the book - and narrator Dawn's redemption at the end it pretty satisfying.
