I have decided to add a new bookshelf called "Abandoned". I gave this book 51 pages and quit. The main character has Tourette's Syndrome and the endless episodes of tics just wore me out. As in all Irish themed books the story points include the diaspora, secrets, grudges and hurt feelings. However, the larger themes of this particular tale include love, faith, faithfulness, generosity of spirit and alcoholism.I really enjoyed the first half but then it lost steam and seemed to drag on. Terrific book- intelligent, layered, engrossing. The author pulls you into the 1950's world of the American enclave of employees working for United Fruit Company just prior to the Revolution.
