"a poor sequel to a great story (The Dark Knight Returns). Worth a read if you've read the first one, but not essential. Buy it used.

Another one of my good friend Jenny's suggestions when I was in high school. Though this book was more like the fare my other good friend Stacey would read. She read a LOTS of pseudo-porn, modern trash fiction of the day in the 80's. Seriously, I'd pick up her flavor-of-the-day-girl-porn she (Stacey) would be reading, randomly choose and turn to any page, and read filth after filth after filth. But I digress.
I really liked the adventures of Jacqueline, Anne Marie, and Rene particularly since I was a young teen. I was shocked and intrigued. I somehow felt betrayed by those Playboy magazines I had hid in my room. The Porky's movies had deceived me. Pandora's Box was opening for me as a young teen. Earlier in the year, the omitted part of the "Canterbury Tales" whetted my appetite. The Story of O fueled the raging hormonal fire within. My like Bruce Banner becoming the Incredible Hulk.

The movie didn't do anything for me- I found the book and movie VERY Oprah, Barbara Streisand/Celine Dion-ish in nature. And that truly disturbs me....less

I actually read these as separate comic books before purchasing the soft cover edition in late 1986. Even if you have a vague reference of whom or what the character Batman is, you'll enjoy this story set in the future. An aged Bruce Wayne, long retired from crime fighting as "Batman", witness’s crime and a dark Gotham City around him. He decides that Gotham again needs someone to step in. He reluctantly begins his quest anew. He has to deal with being much older, and the new and returning villains. The artwork is amazing. ...less

"this is a great 'guy book'- a book about choices and friendships. The 2 movies I've seen based on thsi books don't do it justice- though this could be said for most movies or TV shows from books.

Sunday December 31st, 1995 was the last time I picked up and read the weekly Sunday comics in a newspaper. It was also the last original Calvin & Hobbes cartoon strip. I have purchased each and every compilation as they were released and I cherish each and every strip therein (grammar?). Though philosophically and politically, I believe Bill Waterson and I differ greatly, the man could write and draw one heck of a comic strip. He left on HIS terms and turned down millions to continue the strip. I read somewhere he now spends his leisure time creatively painting landscapes near his home. I sure do miss Calvin & Hobbes...less
