          <body><![CDATA[A young man returns to India after going to college in Los Angeles.  While tangled in a web of identity issues, the young man shoots a monkey that had stolen his levis ( symbolism anyone?).  This is a big no-no in their neck of the woods and the young man's family rushes to save the monkey.<br/><br/>...<a href="http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/A%20young%20man%20returns%20to%20India%20after%20going%20to%20college%20in%20Los%20Angeles.%20%20While%20tangled%20in%20a%20web%20of%20identity%20issues,%20the%20young%20man%20shoots%20a%20monkey%20that%20had%20stolen%20his%20levis%20(%20symbolism%20anyone%3F).%20%20This%20is%20a%20big%20no-no%20in%20their%20neck%20of%20the%20woods%20and%20the%20young%20man's%20family%20rushes%20to%20save%20the%20monkey.%0D%0A%0D%0AWhile%20nursing%20the%20monkey%20back%20to%20health,%20it%20becomes%20clear%20that%20the%20shooting%20had%20flipped%20a%20switch%20in%20the%20monkey%20that%20allows%20him%20to%20remember%20his%20past%20life%20as%20a%20poet.%20%20The%20monkey%20proceeds%20to%20climb%20up%20to%20the%20typewriter%20and%20begin%20telling%20his%20story.%20%20Yama,%20the%20god%20of%20death,%20comes%20down%20and%20says,%20%22Stop%20what%20you're%20doing,%20cuz%20I'm%20about%20to%20ruin%20the%20image%20and%20the%20style%20that%20you're%20used%20to%22%20and%20tries%20to%20put%20an%20end%20to%20the%20monkey's%20...%20er%20...monkeying%20around.%20%20While%20Yama%20is%20dragging%20him%20from%20this%20mortal%20coil,%20the%20monkey%20prays%20to%20Hanuman%20(god%20of%20monkeys%20and%20poets)%20to%20save%20him.%20%20Hanuman%20kicks%20in%20the%20door%20wavin%20a%20.44%20(not%20really,%20but%20i'm%20trying%20to%20keep%20the%20hip-hop%2FHindu%20gods%20thing%20going)%20and%20talks%20Yama%20into%20a%20bet.%20%20They%20will%20assemble%20a%20crowd%20and%20the%20monkey%20will%20climb%20up%20to%20the%20typewriter%20and%20begin%20telling%20his%20story.%20%20If%20the%20crowd%20becomes%20bored%20at%20any%20point%20during%20his%20story,%20Yama%20can%20take%20the%20monkey%20with%20him.%20%20But%20if%20the%20monkey%20tells%20a%20good%20story,%20he%20gets%20to%20kick%20it.%20Deal.%20%0D%0A%0D%0AThe%20monkey%20starts%20telling%20his%20story,%20but%20because%20he%20is%20still%20recovering%20from%20being%20shot,%20he%20needs%20the%20young%20man%20to%20pick%20up%20the%20slack%20-%20afterall,%20he's%20the%20one%20who%20got%20the%20monkey%20in%20this%20mess.%20%20So%20the%20young%20man%20sits%20down%20and%20begins%20telling%20his%20story%20about%20life%20in%20America.%20This%20is%20where%20the%20book%20actually%20begins.%0D%0A%0D%0A%20If%20you%20can%20believe%20it,%20I%20have%20only%20told%20you%20the%20first%2020%20pages.%20The%20rest%20of%20the%20book%20is%20occupied%20by%20the%20two%20stories%20revolving%20around%20one%20another%20in%20a%20fairly%20astounding%20fashion.%20This%20is%20an%20incredible%20book.%20I%20cannot%20recommend%20it%20enough%0D%0A%0D%0A">more...</a>]]></body>
