I'll try to keep organised as much as possible with my review... let's start with what I didn't like:

1. I did not like the writing style of the author at all. It was far too simplistic, and while I realise her goal was to make a lot of complicated information easily accessible for the layreader, I felt it insulted my intelligence to a large degree. The repeated information (and repeated, again and again) further annoyed me. If I needed reminders of a fact, I the reader can make that determination with my highlighter and/or use of the index.

2. The silly (and stupid) illustrations sprinkled oh so generously throughout the text. Again, my intelligence was insulted. They were unnecessary, and I would have preferred actual photos or illustrations of anatomy, cellular/biological activity, etc.

3. Finally, and the biggest affront to my intelligence, was the very last few pages by Dr. Rogers, and her extremly subjective and personal opinion on a matter which has no place among the discourse of hard facts of science: religion; specifically, Christianity. I had an inkling that she was hinting to it all along with the multiple overuses of the phrase "God-given" throughout the text, but in my objectivity, I granted her the excuse that she was merely mistakenly using it, a solecism of sorts. But no. To me, the hundreds of pages in which she presented cold, hard, scientific (sometimes empirical) data were completely discredited by her essentially telling the reader that God, via the King James version of the Bible, was the way to go, since God is, after all, the "Master Biochemist." But if the bible does not "make any sense or is too hard to read" (not absolutely verbatim, but very close, as I don't feel like grabbing the book) she recommends what? Another book to explain all the "miracles" of the Bible to the unthinking, nonintelligent layperson. Perhaps the same type of person who would swallow her complete nonsense way of ending her book, or appreciate the illustrations and lesser vocabulary.

Still, despite her showing her mental defect at the end, this book presents much information that should not be ignored. It took me so long to read it (perhaps b/c of the horrible writing too) because, honestly, it's a scary world she portrays, and she's absolutely right on that point. It can make one feel quite hopeless when you read, and think about, all the toxins and health hazards out there. It's overwhelming. But, while this book may be a good introduction to learning about these things, it's not the be all and end all text. I wish Dr. Rogers had started out with what she supposedly practices, and that is molecular medicine. I could have gotten behind that a great deal more than all her unorganised and confusedly repeated factoids.

In addition, since this book was published 7 years ago, which in this information age translates to decades, I know it probably is in sore need of an update. A revised edition would be good (and if anyone who matters reads this, PLEASE take out the religious irrationality! Oh- and the illustrations.

Don't let my personal review scare you off from this book. Ignore the parts that I mentioned and focus on the actual facts, and make it a priority to learn more about them. That's what I'm trying to do.
