Basically, in the past I read anything that I thought sounded good (King, etc.) and ignored the rest. Then after we finished our library and started organizing our books I realized that I had a ton of books that others wouldn't want to read unless they liked the exact same thing I did. Hmmmm... did that make me narrow minded I thought. Posssibly. So... I found a list of must read books from the Modern Library. Most of these are classics and much older than me. I picked up Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham. I trudged along for a couple of chapters and could NOT get into the story. Then I stared caring about the character but still had the hardest time stayin with the story. After I finished I thought PHEW! Finally! But then I kept finidng myself reflecting on that novel. Wow... if a novel I didn't enjoy reading could make me reflect so much maybe I enjoyed it more than I thought.

Since then I have tried to read 4 or 5 classics per year depending on what was going on. And for the record I also read Sinclair Lewis' Main Street and didn't enjoy it at all. But at least now I can feel like I can give an opinion on it. :)
