I really enjoyed this book. The characters were natural and felt real. Their victories and the cringe worthy moments played out realistically. I was eager to see what would happen.

I'll give the series one more try. The characters could grow on me and the writing improved as the book progressed.

In general, I'm so over the dystopian genre. Good writing and new ideas seem lacking - but I gave this book a try. I'm. so glad I did. Original ideas, complex characters, nonformulaic dialogue... this book is really good! I was reminded of great clas...more

A well written cozy mystery with just enough humor, romance, and danger. The characters are neither perfect nor idiots. The plot was well thought out and plausible. A pleasant engaging read.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

“Oh, the comfort - the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person - having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.”
― Dinah Craik (A Life for a Life)

Nicole Krauss
“Maybe the first time you saw her you were ten. She was standing in the sun scratching her legs. Or tracing letters in the dirt with a stick. Her hair was being pulled. Or she was pulling someone's hair. And a part of you was drawn to her, and a part of you resisted--wanting to ride off on your bicycle, kick a stone, remain uncomplicated. In the same breath you felt the strength of a man, and a self-pity that made you feel small and hurt. Part of you thought: Please don't look at me. If you don't, I can still turn away. And part of you thought: Look at me.”
Nicole Krauss, The History of Love
