I'm already a sucker for Indian Fiction and already particularly fond of Lahiri, so it would have been difficult for her to go wrong with this book. She did not disappoint. This collection of stories centers on themes of modern indian families attempting to live between the worlds of the united states and their home country, which puts each character in a different place of assimilation and traditionalism. Some of these short stories I loved and had me laughing out loud, particularly "Your Mother and I" and "After I Was Thrown Into The River and Before I Drowned." I loved revisiting the character of Hand in one story.
