I think you've hit the nail right on the head. I wish I was tough enough to climb Everest, had the time/flexibility to go make the attempt, had the money to join an expedition, and had a year to work out like a machine and get into good enough shape and pick up enough climbing skills to pull it off. Unfortunately, even then I would probably find out that at 26,000 feet my body would be incapable of going higher. Lots of people that give it their best shot find that their bodies just don’t have what it takes. I would jump at the chance to really be able to prepare and see just what I could do. However, the idea of losing more that a layer of skin on the smallest of my toes to cold and exposure is unthinkable to me, so I think that before I find my physical limit, my mental limit will keep me in the balmy mountaings of Utah. Besides, the way I was breathing while summiting Half Dome in Yosemite a couple of weeks ago tipped me off that I may not be the next great high altitude climber. I think that since I’m so nerdy these days, I’ll have to have my adventures vicariously through others.
How are you doing? I haven’t heard from you in a while or seen much Goodreads activity from you. I was worried you’d fallen into a deep hole of school and work that you were stuck in. How is your dungeon master job going? (Boy, that sounds kind of grim when out of context.)
What's with all of the Mt Everest books? Are you planning a climb, or just wishing that you're tough enough? =o)
Hey, it's completely your fault that my reading list is getting so out-of-hand! I just want it to be on the record that I blame you and your good taste in books (and not my inability to say no to a good one) for my inflated list. I'll have you know that before you came along, my reading list was quite in-control.
Yeah, I'm expecting that some day soon my reading list will be longer than my read list. Ouch! I guess that means I need to stop dreaming and start reading.
Seriously Ellis,
We just need to start counting each other's to-read lists as extensions of our own or there will be no end to how inflated they get with the same books. =o)
