so glad i finally read this! (listened to the audiobook). the writing is wonderful, wordy, but not TOO wordy like some other authors before the 40s. i'm glad it ends the way they did. the whole story is great.

i listened to this in my car while driving back and forth from aitkin to mpls. i liked it a lot, it was very engaging. i kept wanting things to happen in the plot that didnt happen. like for him to go hang out with jane. but i think my making the main character so intense, it was kind of maddening to follow along his life, but made it that much better.

i read this over a year after reading "Wicked" but was able to fall right back into the story even though I didn't remember everything; that was nice.
I thought this was great, maybe even...better than Wicked? I just really like his writing style. I think he does a great job of creating an elaborate fictional story with character depth and intricate enough plot to keep you interested and/or guessing.
This book reminded me of the Golden Compass triology (talking animals) being quite the fantasy adventure.
It's really sad though, which I thought was great.
