Kim Barnes memoir, Into the Wilderness was a powerful piece of work. I have been disappointed in her followup books, save her poetry.

As someone who grew up in the exact area this book is based on, and someone who has heard Kim speak to this geography of spirit, well, I can say it is not as strong or riveting as I had hoped it would be. Not for everyone, but if you served in Vietnam, had a family member who did, or are involved in the wars in the Middle East, this is a brutal reminder of the pain of war, the cost both physical and mental to the folks who serve.

I want to send a copy of this to every member of Congress with a note, "Read it and weep."
