Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
"If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would. Not the most intellectual read, but beautifully written, well-researched and completely captivating. The story of Jamie and Claire could be pigeonholed as 'chick lit', but not so. Gabaldon surp..." Read more of this review »

At first this memoir reminded me of my friend Steve who moved back to his childhood home for about a year and cared for his elderly mother during the final months of her life. He was active on Facebook at the time and would share the loveliest posts ...more

Lovely and sad. All the mistakes we make, yet somehow find a way to get up and keep going.
Kelsey Burnette is on page 65 of 304 of Everything I Never Told You: This is my favorite kind of book--great plot, developed through the voices of the characters, each of which is rendered in great depth and detail. I am savoring each word as this story is woven together. Ng also does an excellent job of capturing the times--the 50s when Marilyn and James meet and marry amidst the ignorance and racism of that time--the 70s when their own children are coming of age. Excellent writing.

“Books. Cats. Life is Good.”

Nafisa Haji
“What I saw there explained everything--the reason he had stayed away, why he had come to say good-bye. I can only describe what I saw by its effect on me. Every woman should be looked at in such a way, at least once her life. With a longing that cannot be contained--with love that goes beyond mere feeling because it transforms and-like the verse of the poem he had read--it dissolves, as an offering, a gift. I felt my face flush and waves of knowing suffused every pore, every cell of my being. I was loved. And in that love, I felt beauty--my own, unrealized until that moment, suddenly rising to consciousness in a way that made everything in me come alive to the beauty all around me. Nothing more needed to be said.”
Nafisa Haji, The Sweetness of Tears

“You know what a storyteller is, don't you? It's a person that has a good memory who hopes other people don't.”
Sandra Dallas

“I am not an atheist but an earthiest. Be true to the earth.”
Edward Abbey

Robert Frost
“These woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.”
Robert Frost, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
