This is a short story about an eleven year-old boy's arising adolescent feelings towards women. The observational writing trough the eyes of a young boy are extremely realistic and are bound to recall some memories of what it was like to be a child.
It was written by Dostoievsky when he had been charged to death(sentece that latter changed).
Easy and short read, but a very valuable one....less

The French Powder Mystery is the second in the Ellery Queen series. The narrated events are all in a small time frame and are nothing but the investigation of Ellery and inspector Queen on the crime. There are no big twists or events that make the reader wonder, shift and go from one character to the other in search of the assassin.
As oposed to the "Finishing Stroke" which I previously read, this book fails to engage the reader in the search. But, somehow, it still manages to be an interesting enough book.
I especially advise Ellery queen's books to anyone looking for a fun but overall easy read on less than optimum reading conditions....less

Being the first Stephen King book I read and having seen the fantastic Kubrick movie before, I had no idea whether I would enjoy it, but I ended up loving it.
As a movie buff I understand most movies as having no value relation with the books. Great movies have come out from not-so-great books and great book have been the source of below average movies. In "The shinning", both mediums are both perfectly used for the story, but even tough it is the same story, the focus varies in the movie from the book and that makes all the difference.
I was more curious with the first half of the book where the alcoholism presents itself as the primary source of terror as this is the part missing in the movie, but I also found the second half to be great because of it's a lot scarier than the first. Absolutely amazing how King places three characters in the same scary situation and makes both occurrences equally terrifying(room 217).
I found this to be the scariest book I have ever read and an interesting journey to the monster of alcoholism.
Read this book on a dark silent night...it will make you imagination work on its maximum abilities....less

"The Prophet" is a book that by it's own religious nature will vary in quality depending on one's personal views.
I say this because as someone who has completly step back from any religious belief, I struggled with some of the book's content; some "truths" presented are those shared by many religions and therefore are completly dependent on belief.
That being said, I would still recomend this book because of the beautiful imaginery recalled by the Prophet to deliver his teachings; most are so rich that there were parts I re-read several times because understanding the simple images felt many times like an ephifany in the sense that it gave order to some portion of the human experience without simplifying it.
All things considered, it was worth reading since this is a small and well written book whose effect is more likely than not to bring some more perspective on religious beliefs....less
