Steven King is back in the driver's seat after a small drought of ho-hum titles (IMO). I'd give this more of a 4.5, but Goodreads still doesn't have half stars.

I've reviewed a few of his last books on here and, while I never said I out right hated them, they certainly were lacking something for me.

Under the Dome though... it sunk it's hooks into me right from the start and didn't want to let me go. I read about 200 pages in one sitting and the next sitting I chewed up another 500 -- the story just flows so well and I really cared about the good guys and hated the bad guys and wanted to see what was going to happen to /everyone/.

This is, like a few people have said, "classic" King writing and that's the King I really enjoyed so it is nice to see it coming back out. What I really liked was that the story revolved around the people in the town. There were no vampires, werewolves, ghosts or demons skulking about. I think it made the whole situation that much more... gritty/disgusting/real.

Bad points... the kids were a little weak, but I leave that up to the fact that he's likely writing from what he remembers being a kid as... so they're not super up to date. The ending felt like he didn't quite know what to do so decided to take the easy road out. I suppose it was a given, but it still felt really lame and contrived. It didn't, however, ruin the whole book for me.

Yeah, I skimmed the first chapter at Costco. I'm going to see if the library in town has it... though I'm not holding my breath ;)

I actually enjoyed this series and am waiting for the next book so I can get it finished. May have to read them all again just to get all the major players straight since Crows had me confused for the first few chapters :p (Such a long break between book 3 and book 4 that I forgot half the story)

Hmmm... will be looking forward to your review of this. It's sitting on my bookshelf at the moment. I did read Mystic River and wasn't hugely impressed, but have to admit the trailer for the movie of Shutter Island is what prompted me to give Lehane another shot.

I've been avoiding it like the plague, but my sister in law loaned me all four and I gave the last three back to her. I decided to read the first one since it was still here... it's not the greatest thing I've ever read, but I can totally see why all the tween girlies love it to pieces. Me? I just wanna poke Bella in the eyes and/or strangle her and Edward is just... so not my thing. Now I have to finish it on principle (including the rest of the series) :p Next on the table is Dean Koontz's Odd series... again, borrowed from my bro and sis-in-law
