this is a family history, concentrating specifically on a father and son, spanning almost the entire 20th century in the former ussr. born jewish, the father slowly leaves his jewish identity and joins the bolshevik revolution and ever persecutes the jews in his country. the son, growing up knowing nothing of his jewish heritage, slowly becomes aware of it and seeks to regain that identity and eventually make aliyah to israel. this book does jump around alot through the historical aspects, but overall a good book....less
