Thoroughly engaging characters that you can't help getting attached to. You know when you finish a book and you wish you could stay in touch to see how everything works out for them?
It manages to make the implausible totally plausible, because you find the main character so engaging that you easily forgive the other characters for their reaction to him. (Can't say more without spoiling.)
I more and more wonder what makes a good book, and more and more think that it is this ability to draw the reader into a fictional world as though it were real, and to create genuine affection for the characters, that marks a good writer.
It certainly makes for a good read!...less
