Thoroughly enjoyable slice-of-life novel of one turning-point summer in the life of Benji/Ben Cooper. Sag Harbor in the mid-1980s comes to life in this deliciously witty and luxuriantly nostalgic portrait of a time, a place, and most of all, an age. For me, worth the price of admission just for the chapter on life as a scooper in a trendy ice-cream shop of the era. Very engaging future-colony SF story. You've got human colonists of all ethnicities, alien races serving in the role of angry gods to the human cultures while viciously fighting one another, lost technologies locked under the ice, mysterious long-lived enhanced humans with murky motivations, and more.
