<about>I don't write YA yet, but I have nearly 30 books of my own, my favorites including DINOSAUR MUMMIES, ALBINO ANIMALS, TALES OF THE CRYPTIDS, MYSTERIES OF THE MUMMY KIDS and DINOSAUR PARADE. I will eventually perfect my YA, though. Here's hoping that'll happen SOON. In the meantime, my passion is energetic, sometimes quirky nonfiction for younger readers, and I love doing school visits. The kids' reactions to my work is worth more than any award ever will be. Great knowing they can get excited about asking questions because of my hard work.

I also work for my good friend Chris Crutcher, which is ideal because we have so much in common and because he needs me to help him keep track of where he's going when he travels. His hosts are some of the nicest people in the world and I love helping them prepare. </about>

Actually Chris Crutcher was mentored by Terry Davis, not the other way around. When Chris was working at an alternative school (as the director) in Oakland, California, Davis was a Stegnar Fellow at Stanford across the bay. They went running together often in those days and talked about Davis's work in progress, a book called VISION QUEST. As they discussed those chapters, as Chris saw Davis work magic with his revisions, he basically learned how a book evolved and came together. It was after this experience he began to realize he, too, could be an author. So Davis mentored Chris.

Kelly : )

You'll LOVE the new one I'm working on -- IN SEARCH OF SASQUATCH. I've spent over a year following the most credible experts in North America all over the Pacific Northwest (I like in Spokane) and the evidence they present is hard to deny. You might find it more compelling, because I am focused on ONE Cryptid, rather than many. So the depth of information will be greater -- on that one animal.

But believe me, I read and referenced DOZENS of adult Cryptozoology books before I wrote Tales of the Cryptids. And almost none of what I wrote was rehashed old information. I tend to go right to the source for fresh interviews, and I'm proud of Tales. But the new one will be kick butt, too.

Well, you nailed it. Since we only had so many pages to cover a LOT of material, this was meant to be an introduction to Cryptozoology, not an in depth exploration. But wait until you read my new book, IN SEARCH OF SASQUATCH for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (Fall 2011). I've spent a solid year following Bigfoot hunters, interviewing scientists and eye witnesses, chasing down the beast myself. It's going to be a book that offers real evidence from absolutely credible experts. The information blew my socks off. It should be a MUST for anyone who thinks Sasquatch may be real...food for thought for those who think it's a hoax. Hard ot dismiss a LOT of this information. Can't wait to share it with you all.

Kelly Milner Halls
