The Shack is a stunning eye-opener into a side of God's character you might never have otherwise considered.
I would NOT recommend this book to say, rapists or murderers who are looking for justification to be evil. However, if you don't fall into that category, you'll probably learn something cool about God! (In my list of people I recommend this to, it's especially towards those who "live by the law" or who are always seeking justice blood.)
Some people said "oh this is heresy" etc. Well, all I can say is, a year after reading this book, I disagree. Those people obviously didn't get what the author was trying to communicate. Read The Shack, then read the Bible more, as well as some of my Listopia books. God is good, and Jesus is the King. Too easy.

If you are someone who doesn't know what's in the Bible at all (like I once was!) and you don't know where the Bible came from, or anything like that, and you just want the straight goods, then this would be a great resource for you. It gives intellectual reasons to your intellectual questions.
Strobel's coverage of the facts is very straightforward. This isn't a "conversion experience" book - it's a facts book, wrapped in Strobel's story as a news reporter looking for the truth. In that sense, if you are looking to be bowled over by excitement, there is less of that (although it's still a cool novel / story - and it's in no way a textbook!)
One pair of tips:
1) If you are seeking, there are answers if you are honestly looking for them. If you aren't ready to learn the truth, then nobody will be able to tell it to you.
2) The best way to learn about what God has to offer is to learn from people who experience him and what Jesus did for them. Look at my "Top 'X' Books That Changed My Life" Listopia to see what "real" churches should be talking about in their teachings.
