Poe Shadow had a disjointed narrative and too many paths to be followed successfully. I didn't believe in any of the characters. Sorry Matthew and Poe.

I read this years ago, and I loved loved it until....all the gratuitous sex. Too much, no fun after 30,000 times already. The history was good, fun, but nothing we haven't seen before.

Arundhati Roy
“To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.”
Arundhati Roy, The Cost of Living

Charles Bukowski
“The Laughing Heart

your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.”
Charles Bukowski, Betting on the Muse: Poems and Stories

Flannery O'Connor
“Where you come from is gone, where you thought you were going to was never there, and where you are is no good unless you can get away from it. Where is there a place for you to be? No place... Nothing outside you can give you any place... In yourself right now is all the place you've got.”
Flannery O'Connor

Edith Wharton
“If only we'd stop trying to be happy, we could have a pretty good time.”
Edith Wharton

Zelda Fitzgerald
“Nobody has ever measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold.”
Zelda Fitzgerald
