Sueños de dioses y monstruos by Laini Taylor
"Decir que se me ha hecho eterno es poco. Ya venía arrastrando eso desde el segundo. Demasiado relleno, cosas que no aportan nada, y otras que le da vueltas y vueltas. Perfectamente se podría haber compactado en un solo libro y no cebar cual ganado..." Read more of this review »

Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor
It wasn't disgust she felt for Karou, not anymore; it was indignation. A man like Akiva crosses worlds to fnd you, infiltrates the enemy capital just to dance with you, bends heaven and hell to avenge your death, saves your comrade and kin from t...

"CAUTION: Long Review, Spoilers, Rant

"Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love. It did not end well."

And the story sucked. The story was like a trash can full of children’s thrown-away arts and crafts topped with their snotty tissues and..." Read more of this review »

How can you fuck up one of my favourite premises this much?

Tamora Pierce played with this premise decades ago and did it much better. Read her books instead of this tripe.

Defy by Sara B. Larson
"Full, chapter-by-chapter review on my blog, the Snark Theater.

This book manages to combine two flaws that I did not think were compatible: being dreadfully boring, and really offensive.

The premise is an obvious Mulan ripoff (and the ending doesn't..." Read more of this review »

Cordelia Fine
“Unlike men in the same position, women leaders have to continue to walk the fine line between appearing incompetent and nice and competent but cold. Experimental studies find that, unlike men, when they try to negotiate greater compensation they are disliked. When they try out intimidation tactics they are disliked. When they succeed in a male occupation they are disliked. When they fail to perform the altruistic acts that are optional for men, they are disliked. When they do go beyond the call of duty they are not, as men are, liked more for it. When they criticize, they are disparaged . Even when they merely offer an opinion, people look displeased. The perceptive reader will notice a certain pattern emerging. The same behavior that enhances his status simply makes her less popular. It’s not hard to see that this makes the goal of getting ahead in the workplace distinctly more challenging for a woman.”
Cordelia Fine, Delusions of Gender: How Our Minds, Society, and Neurosexism Create Difference

Malorie Blackman
“If you're naive - which means immature, inexperienced, or a bit thick - you get eaten alive.”
Malorie Blackman, Checkmate

“I’ve come to realize that speaking the truth can be a form of love. Maybe listening can be too.”
Lilah Pace, Asking for It

Wayne Gerard Trotman
“Optimists are usually inexperienced.”
Wayne Gerard Trotman, Veterans of the Psychic Wars

Felicia Day
“It’s hard being weird. No—it’s hard living in a culture that makes it hard.”
Felicia Day, You're Never Weird on the Internet
