OK -- I have read ALL of his books. I had to stop reading them in public because I would laugh out loud in crowed places or in the gym, and I would get funny looks. Not ha ha funny but more like crazy funny.
The author is fantastic and it is no wonder he has a following. I have too much pride to follow someone across the country, however not enough to spend 300 dollars to see him live. I had to fly from the big island to Oahu and buy a ticket and met with my friend Katerine. We both were crying in the audience with laughter.
If you like his books, to acutally hear him read out loud and speak is 10x's better.
I chose this book because I read the Mike Tyson story over and over. If you need a good laugh, check it out....less

The second book The angel of darkness is very different but just as good. I will put it in my review separately.
This book is based in New York City at the turn of the centuary. Six main characters try to capture the first known serial killer. It is fast pace, and makes you wonder what parts are real or fictonal. (real names are used in the book).
The author has created two books with these six characters and wrote in a way I have never experienced before. Each book is interpreted a different character. The first book the character John Moore, a journalist. The second book is interpreted by a young apprentice of Dr.Kreizler named Stevie. Another fast pace thriller.
When different characters interpret the story, you get a different perspective of the characters in each book,, it is genius. For example Mr. Moore in the firt book interprets, you get to read his mind and thought about the other characters. The second book Stevie gets to interpret and you learn his perspective on Mr. Moore that is never revealed in the first book.
Just read them you will see what I mean.

If you care about someone that has an extreme and powerful tendacy to control and manipulate, then this book is a great start. If you choose to maintain a relationship with this person this book may help you learn their perspective (which most likely will always differ from your own).
It will validate your own thoughts and help you realize you are not alone. This book not only helps a person understand people that tend to control and manipulate, but also provides great insight for those of us that need to establish boudaries with these personality types.
Very empowering....less

Fast pace, thrilling, page turner. Very different than the first book The Alienist where you don't know whoe the killer is. In this book the killer is revealed in the very beginning. Even though the team of detectives knows who she is, they still can't catch her. Great for those that are having a difficult time getting back to reading.

Not just another Dog Lovers book.
The author writes very well, and creates excellent images through his writing. This book is about unconditional love, and relationships. Not just with the dog, but between the husband and wife as well. Funny, sad, real.
I strongly recommend you don't read this on vacation. I very STRONGLY recommend you don't read this on a place. After a few glasses of wine on a 5 hours flight, I found myself crying uncontrollably. The steward kept asking me if I was ok, and I would look at her and say "Yessssssss, (sniff) Im great!!" When you get towards the end of the book read it in private.

Although I am not a big fan of this author I also enjoyed the prodigal summer very much.
Shoot me, I just think her latest books are written better. I tried to read Animal dreams, and pigs in heaven. I kept putting both books down and turned on the TV or ran to the computer (my worst vice)....less
