"I think I wanted to feel this book, but I'm not really feeling it. I'm only a bit in, but I already don't want to keep going. I'll keep it in my NOOK because it's an ARC but who knows when I'll get back to it." — Jun 14, 2013 09:28am

“I run for I don't know how long. Hours, maybe, or days. Alex told me to run. So I run. You have to understand. I am no one special. I am just a single girl. I am five feet two inches tall and I am in-between in every way. But I have a secret. You can build walls all the way to the sky and I will find a way to fly above them. You can try to pin me down with a hundred thousand arms, but I will find a way to resist. And there are many of us out there, more than you think. People who refuse to stop believing. People who refuse to come to earth. People who love in a world without walls, people who love into hate, into refusal, against hope, and without fear. I love you. Remember. They cannot take it.”

“At the heart of his paper was the notion that fairy tales relieved us of our need for order and allowed us impossible, irrational desires. Magic was real, that was his thesis. This thesis was at the very center of chaos theory — if the tiniest of actions reverberated throughout the universe in invisible and unexpected ways, changing the weather and the climate, then anything was possible. The girl who sleeps for a hundred years does so because of a single choice to thread a needle. The golden ball that falls down the well rattles the world, changing everything. The bird that drops a feather, the butterfly that moves its wings, all of it drifts across the universe, through the woods, to the other side of the mountain. The dust you breathe in was once breathed out. The person you are, the weather around you, all of it a spell you can’t understand or explain.”

Description:
First two chapters of my upcoming 2014 self-published women's fiction novel, "The Closest Thing to OK."
Sam DeCastro left Miami for Tallahassee when she was eighteen years-old to lend her recently widowed brother, Paul, a hand in taking care of his two young children, Mark and Allison. Five years later, Sam is still living in Tallahassee and taking care of Mark and Allie acting as their sole caregiver while her increasingly troubled brother fades more and more from their family picture. Not a mother to the children that she raises. Not a wife to the brother that she’s shackled to. Not a daughter to the parents that hardly loved her as a kid. Not a cookie-cutter example of the perky PTA parent—not with her tattoos and her penchant for heavy music. Having set aside any notion of living the life of any normal college-aged woman, Sam has practically no social life, no college degree, and no room for a real relationship in her life.
Enter Jake Turner, a former flame and counselor at Canopy Hopes where Sam’s niece and nephew attend school. Jake had Sam once, and then he lost her. Six months later, they are reunited at a parent-teacher conference and the sparks reignite. With Jake back in the picture, Sam must decide what she wants for her own life: Stay trapped in a platonic marriage with an absent husband of a brother? Strike out on her own, leaving the kids behind, and never looking back? Jake isn’t sure that Sam sees a happy medium, but he wants her to, because he knows that if she doesn’t, then there won’t be any room for him in her life either.
