Thirteen year-old Kyra's heart-wrenching tale about her life in a fundamentalist polygamy compound and her forced engagement to her sixty year-old uncle. I listened to this title and the narrator's voice sounded very young and sweet. This made Kyra seem very child-like, which made her story even more sad and frustrating. This book went by very fast; before I knew it, I was on the fifth and final disc. The story is rough and while I can't say there are a lot of graphic scenes, simply what is happening is horrifying (abuse, incest, child brides, etc). I loved the story, but it definitely lost 2 stars for the ending. Some things were left wide open while others were tied up too neatly. Fantastic finale to the series. Tons of action. Another one of those horrible-topic, well-written books. Hopkins amazes me with her ability to say so much with so few words. Kristina's struggle made my stomach hurt. I wanted to yell at her. Smack her. Tell her to shape up. My only real beef with the book is the ending. Lots of fun! For someone who never formally learned about mythology, I was quite proud of guessing many monsters or recognizing their stories when told. Riordan does a great job of sharing the myths (or histories, since the gods do exist, of course) without lecturing. I immediately went out and got the second on the series. ]]>
