I don't know why this took me nearly two weeks to finish. Starting in media res was hard as I haven't read the previous two in the series, but by the end I was killed dead. It's incredible. I love it.

Pretty, but I don't think I got it. Like it was a lot of very beautifully assembled words, but to what purpose? I enjoyed reading it, it was suspenseful and scary, but ultimately it felt inconsequential. Maybe the series altogether is better.

Catherynne M. Valente
“Listen to me. Love is a Yeti. It is bigger than you and frightening and terrible. It makes loud and vicious noises. It is hungry all the time. It has horns and teeth and the force of its fists is more than anyone can bear. It speeds up time and slows it down. And it has its own aims and missions that those who are lucky enough to see it cannot begin to guess. You might see a Yeti once in your life or never. You might live in a village of them. But in the end, not matter how fast you think you can go, the Yeti is always faster than you, and you can only choose how you say hello to it, and whether you shake its hand.”

“[God] will not be used as a convenience. Men or nations who think they can revive the Faith in order to make a good society might just as well think they can use the stairs of heaven as a shortcut to the nearest chemist's shop.”
