"I'm going to leave this book on hold so I reconsider if I'll finish it.

The book had a nice start, a great amount of trouble and deliberate mystery but I find the lack of depth of the characters annoying. Mankell adds more and more people as the book evolves; that's okay but a little more detail could've gone a long way. I do hope Wallander gets less straightfoward, equally troubled. I like the landscapes though."

Keliani and 8 other people liked Meli's review of White Nights:
White Nights by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
" RESEÑA COMPLETA EN EL BLOG :)

Tengo una relación agridulce con este historia, siempre me gustó, siempre me pareció tierna y poética. Siempre me sentí identificada con los protagonistas (sí, con los dos), pero es muy triste el destino del soñad..." Read more of this review »

Keliani and 125 other people liked Jessica's review of Between the World and Me:
Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
"I thought it was a little fishy that all the reviews on here are these reverent whispery multi-starred nods of agreement about how important this book is. I mean, that just never happens, especially with the "it" book of the moment : there are alw..." Read more of this review »

Zadie Smith
“For ridding oneself of faith is like boiling seawater to retrieve the salt--something is gained but something is lost.”
Zadie Smith, White Teeth

“Like the railroads that bankrupted a previous generation of visionary entrepreneurs and built the foundations of an industrial nation, fiber-optic webs, storewidth breakthroughs, data centers, and wireless systems installed over the last five years will enable and endow the next generation of entrepreneurial wealth. As Mead states, "the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life was to get a company going during the bubble". Now, Mead says, "there's space available; you can get fab runs; you can get vendors to answer the phone. You can make deals with people; you can sit down and they don't spend their whole time telling you how they're a hundred times smarter than you. It's absolutely amazing. You can actually get work done now, which means what's happening now is that the entrepreneurs, the technologists, are building the next generation technology that isn't visible yet but upon which will be built the biggest expansion of productivity the world has ever seen.”
George Gilder, The Silicon Eye: Microchip Swashbucklers and the Future of High-Tech Innovation

Susanna Kaysen
“Scar tissue has no character. It's not like skin. It doesn't show age or illness or pallor or tan. It has no pores, no hair, no wrinkles. It's like a slip cover. It shields and disguises what's beneath. That's why we grow it; we have something to hide. ”
Susanna Kaysen, Girl, Interrupted

Veronica Rossi
“She looked up. “A world of nevers under a never sky.”
She fit in well then, he thought. A girl who never shut up.”
Veronica Rossi, Under the Never Sky

John Steinbeck
“Maybe ever’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other.”
John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men
