This story starts off from the end of Black Jack with Travis Knight, part owner of Scoundrels the sex club. There are so many elements in this book that are so fabulous, saying too much might spoil it but I will try to to highlight the best points. Shea Landon escapes Las Vegas and decides to start a new life, she finds a job at Scoundrels just as her money was running out. She decides to sneak and hide inside the club and stay sleeping on the big bed on stage, what she doesn't realize her incognito ways are actually being watched by Travis. He is fascinated by her and decides to see what his sleeping angel will do next. When an expected cold has Emma sending her home early, Shea finds herself out on a rainy night without her belongings and very small amount of money in her pocket. When Travis realizes Shea is nowhere to be found, he panics and goes looking for her and find her in a diner. He tells her who he is and makes her go back tot he club and rest. What she gets is way more than what she expected.
I love how the author tells the story from the regency era and the present, transition was very smoothly between the two. Made me feel like I was reading two different stories in one without if being confusing or taking away from either story. The way Mari Carr wrote this book made me want to reach in and hug Travis so tight and never letting go. This book does have some sensitive issues which are not addressed often in romance books but Mrs. Carr does it in a way that makes you really feel for the character, not feel sorry for them. I like that after all the hurt and pain the couple were able to find their HEA in a realistic manner. Wonderful read and an awesome author...Mari Carr is an auto-buy for me and cannot wait to read more from her.(less)

After reading and loving book 3 of the Hot Ice series, I made it a point to try to get my hands on the first two books in the series. As I can attest, these books do not need to be read in order and do well as stand alones. I did enjoy meeting and getting to know Ramrod (the hero in book 3) before he met his heroine.
As with every Lily Harlem book I have read so far, it is told in the heroine's first person point of view. We know exactly what Carly is thinking and how she is feeling. I was embarrassed right along with Carly during the TV studio incident. I do understand that Carly is worried about being a one-night stand to Brick but I'm not sure I agree with some of the things that she did. This led to some rough moments and misunderstandings. One thing I would have liked to have seen developed a bit more was why Carly has the need to drive herself so hard to succeed. It was briefly alluded to while they were at Brick's cabin in South Carolina but it was not developed or revealed.
Overall, this was a great story and it definitely has a place on my favorites shelf(less)

I think that I have to pay attention to the titles I choose to read a little more. I thought when I chose this book it said ‘the power of love”, not ‘the powder of love. Go ahead laugh if you must, I did. Ms. Rosalie Ambermere comes into a rather unusual aphrodisiac she inherited from a cousin who was very free in his sexual explorations. So much so that Rosalie sought him out in hopes to learn more. She finds upon his passing that she is the proud owner of a strange powder substance. This then takes her into a realm she never even imagined. She finds herself falling for Mr. Gideon Reed, one who is after the powder for some clients one of which is a wealthy gentleman that he looks after for his family. It is hard to figure out if it is love or the powder that keeps drawing her towards this unpolished man that isn’t what she imagined herself falling for. Gideon, hired as a keeper, for his oversexed client Walter, follows him everywhere in order to pick up the pieces and keep angry husbands at bay. They find themselves thrown together in a sometimes off kilter, hilarious adventure to rid themselves and everyone else of the powder that is a powerful aphrodisiac for sex. Rosalie’s spoiled mother steps in deciding to throw a party. With the help of Walter’s new keeper they steal some of the powder and add it to the soup. Everyone who ate the soup is in for a very wild night, leaving much delicate cleaning up for the next day. Ms. Devon has developed the characters in such a way that you actually find them interesting and entertaining. You are drawn into the amateur sleuthing to find a safe place to keep the powder out of the way. I enjoyed the twists and turns that kept you guessing as to what would happen next. Ms. Devon teased the reader with the awkwardness and uncomfortable situations during the Victorian Era, along with it being exciting and sensual at the same time. She wrote a well written book of foreplay, erotic encounters and an unusual way to lose your virginity. I loved this book and although I laughed at times, I also had a completely satisfying feeling at the happy ending.(less)

Absolutely freaking amazing! Diary of a Mad Fat Girl is a roller coaster ride of emotion like few other books I have had the pleasure of reading. I laughed (out-loud in a library), felt my eyes fill with tears, got extremely torqued off, felt bursts of happiness and got rather irked off at the main character and wanted to smack her at times.
I knew going into this story that I would like it – or at least I had a pretty good inkling that I would. However, I had no idea just how much the story and its characters were going to grab a hold of me and make me fall head over heels in love. The sassy southern charm and bull-headedness of Ace Jones drips deliciously from the pages. She is a character that grabs the readers by the gonads and doesn’t let up. She also tells it like it is without qualms. Ace, however, does have a big self-esteem issue when it comes to her body and the fact that she deserves a wonderful kind of all-encompassing love that one certain hunk by the name of Mason, with whom she has had an on and off again relationship with since she was eleven (now thirty). Thus the reason I wanted to smack her at times.
Do be aware that Diary of a Mad Fat Girl is not for the easily offended, nor is it for the serious-minded reader. Rather, this book is for someone looking for a fun, relaxing and indulgent story. With that being said, the dialog is excellent, the descriptions superb and the storyline witty, yet on the serious side when it comes to the not-so-shiny bits of life. Diary of a Mad Fat Girl is a story of take-no-bull attitudes, tight and bonded friendships, blackmail, spousal abuse (the serious aspect dealt within the book), infidelity, romance and a delightful, hard-to-resist little chiweenie dog named Buster Loo. Author Stephanie McAfee delves into the world of the human psyche, the good, the bad and the ugly and puts a spin on it that is impossible to resist. Yes, some of these are not joking matters, however they are meant to be portrayed in a way that is entertaining – thus the reason that this is not a book for the easily offended. Ace’s best friends, Chloe and Lilly are delightful secondary characters and though all three couldn’t be any different, their personalities play off of one another winningly. I have to say that I also adored Ethan Allen, the good ol boy that is the town’s most eligible bachelor, yet just hasn’t found “the one”. I would love to see a spin off book that focuses on him! He is, in every aspect, a cowboy gentleman who loves to have fun, yet looks out, with a fierce protectiveness, for his friends – including Ace, Chloe and Lilly. He is absolutely adorable and impossible to resist. I cannot forget to mention Mason, the on again, off again love interest of Ace. Love him!! He is hot, sexy, patient, and sounds like the perfect man.
Needless to say, I loved each and every bit of Diary of a Mad Fat Girl. The relationships between the characters were incredibly well written and the entire story was smooth as molasses and indulgent as a big old glass of sweet tea. I truly cannot wait for more by Stephanie McAfee and her lively, humorous and contagious talent! Quote: My inner bitch and outer grown-up tangle in a vicious brawl, and I just sit there and stare at him like I might rip his head off and feed it to some wild hogs.(less)

But I loved this "book" from cover to cover. Gena Showalter and Jill Monroe have created a masterpiece with their magazine stylized book devoted to the world of Dating the Undead. After checking out the cover, I turned to page one and was rewarded with an ad for Coffin Klein and I knew I was in for quite a ride. All the ads had me rolling. I mean, who came up with mythmatch.com, GoDieVa or Jimmy Chew? It's pure genius. On to the articles... they covered everything you'd find in a regular magazine but with an awesome twist. There were recipes, an advice column, fashion stories and so on. The authors equally tackle advice on how to date vampires, werewolves, dragons, zombies, angels and demons. And to top it off, the photos are awesome. Hot guys abound. Included in this magazine is a sneak peak at Gena Showalter's upcoming release, The Darkest Seduction (*squee*), and a wonderful photo album of her Lords of the Underworld. I'll admit that I hadn't pictured the Lords like this, but I will from now on. This really is a must read for paranormal fans. And I dare you to not crack a smile at least once as you read. Now excuse me while I go re-take that quiz on whether or not I have what it takes to date an immortal.(less)

L-Y-N. It’s the last thing the dying father wants his children to know.
This story had me hooked from the beginning. The writing style drew me in and I felt like I was there with the characters as they suffered tremendous loss and adversity. After losing their mother, then their grandmother, the five Peach children then lose their father, seemingly overnight. Never overcoming the grief of losing his wife, their father wasn’t around much and could barely provide for their basic needs. What would happen to the children now?
The cast of characters in this book were rich, diverse, and a real treasure. From the parish priest who offers the kids guidance without sounding overly “preachy,” to the nosy neighbor downstairs to the community members rallying and surrounding the kids, I was caught up in the seven day span the book covers. I laughed, I cried, and I wanted to know more when the last page was finished. It’s just one of those stories where the characters enter your heart and will never leave.
As a side note, the tone of this story had a nice balance of religious references and overtones without being condescending in anyway and was a pleasant surprise. I do not feel it would be offensive to anyone and I would definitely recommend it.(less)

Charlotte is a strong, independent ball buster of an attorney. Time is money and work is everything...at least that is how Charlotte feels. She's viewed by others as a no nonsense, no holds barred defense attorney that was raised in high society. But she has secrets, big secrets! She prefers to be alone and not have to depend on or confide in anyone, but Rokov, a local detective wants to change that. The carnival has arrived in town, the one Grace, now calling herself Charlotte, grew up in and finally broke away at age sixteen. She has worked hard to leave her past behind her, but it's back with a vengeance. Now her step-dad, Grady, who runs the carnival, is knocking on her door to ask for her professional help to save Sooner, the only family Charlotte has left, the one person she thought had a chance to have a normal life. But Grady broke his promise and Sooner didn't have the life Charlotte had hoped she would. To top it all off, there is a ritualistic killer on the loose that has his eye on her. She will have to fight for more than her reputation...her life is at stake. Mary Burton has written a multi-layered, fast paced and high energy story. Before She Dies is well written and pulls you right into the story. You won't want to put the book down until you get to the last word...The plot is intricate and delivers raw emotions and fear that grabs hold and has you holding your breath waiting for the next turn of the page. I would have liked to have had a little more interaction between Charlotte and Sooner and between Charlotte and Rokov, but there was enough to get you hooked. I recommend Before She Dies to fans of Karen Robards and Lisa Jackson.(less)

Jovanna is a 30 year old woman with her own yarn/knitting business who is in need of a security system installed due to someone who has been vandalizing her business and being a pain in the you know what. Jovanna is afraid it might be her ex husband bothering her but she's not sure. David is the owner of a security business in town and installs a system for her at her request and there is also some smokin' hot chemistry, but Jovanna, who is recently divorced from a man that was a real jerk to her is afraid of commitment and being intimately close with a man again. Jovanna decides to go to a BDSM club after a recent break in at her business to try and blow off some steam and David happens to be there that night as well and well....that's when the story really picks up and gets sooooo good!!!! I don't want to spoil ANYTHING for you!!!!! I LIKED this book...a lot. I liked Jovanna, she's tough but not stupid "I'm going to go out in the dark by myself and nobody knows where I am". She's vulnerable and scared but willing to try again. David, oh David, he's a strong alpha male but not a jerk. He's a man that knows what he wants and isn't afraid to go after it but is sensitive and a nice guy. Why can't I find my own David?!!! Anyway, back to business.....This book is enjoyable...predictable, but who cares? It's entertaining and makes you want to sit and finish it in one gulp. I give this book 5 stars...yeah!!!(less)

Hot, sweet, romantic, steamy are just a few of the words I would use to describe this story. Ashley is the quiet bookworm office mouse and when she arrives at the hotel for the weekend on a business reward, she finds out her friend has replaced her boring clothes leaving her only with a sexy red dress to wear instead. Told in first person point of view, we meet Ashley who is a saucy virgin who finally gets a chance to lose that "pesky virginity." She takes a chance by stepping out of her comfort zone and the rewards she encounters over the weekend are extensive. I enjoyed getting to know both Shane and Ashley. Shane is coming off of a divorce and seemed like he was a really sweet guy and perfect for Ashley. I do believe Shane could have handled the conflict later on in the story a bit better.
As much as I enjoyed the Happily Ever After at the end (I'm not spoiling anything. It's a romance novel, the HEA is a given!), I was left with some concerns and questions on how it will all eventually work out. Overall though, it was a great story and is definitely being shelved under my favorites.(less)
