Hi all, I'm de-lurking to say how much I loved Silas Marner too. I think the angst and tension in it was a plus point for me, whereas I can see some readers would find that tedious. I *had* to read it at school, but fell in love with it and would quite happily return to it!

(just for intro) I'm a British published writer myself, but with readers worldwide, mainly in the US market. I like this group that spans a wide range of people and topics.

Suggestions for great books?? (recent) I'm loving the WW1 trilogy by Pat Barker, Regeneration is the first, about Seigfried Sassoon and his peers.
(classics) Nicholas Nickleby by Dickens does it for me every time LOL. It has drama, misery, pathos, tension, humor, resilience and a kick-ass twist at the end :).
