This could be one of my top favorite books of all time. He writes like a hip-hop Kerouak. You can feel the beat and the rhythm as he describes listening to his first records and feeling the music pulse through him. He doesn't necessarily follow grammatical rules, but I think that makes the book and the story flow so much better. It's a quick read and a must for anyone who loves music.

Maybe 13 books was just going too far. I mean, I want to finish out the series just to find out what happened, but at this point, it's becoming more of a chore than a pleasure. It's also kind of depressing how true the author stays to the title of the series. Truly, they are all unfortunate events, and you seriously begin to wish you had never started. But the books are so well-written. I can't say no. So, would I recommend these books? Yes. Only if you get them all 13 and treat them like one big book and read them all at once and just get it over with.

YES!!! Three books, three authors, 145 short stories, endless pleasure. Of course, Dave Eggers' book was my favorite. He has this way of writing that pulls you in, makes you think all these wonderful ideas, then drops you back off in the real world. Wham, bam, thank you, ma'am. The other two are just as ace!
Deb Olin Unferth's shorty-short stories pack a punch and leave you wanting to find out more about her, her writing, anything you can devour.
You know when you have three things and they're all your favorite and you really love them all, but you have to put them in an order, and when you do that, one of them has to be in the last place? Well, that's where Sarah Manguso's book is. Her stories are a little longer, but they're no less captivating.

This was my first Bukowski book, but it definitely will not be my last. In this collection of poetry, I was introduced to a lonely, barely-more-than-homeless man with a weakness for horse races, alcohol, women, and cats. I like his straightforward style.

This is one of my top ten all-time favorite books. It's so touching and funny and loving. And it gives me a sense of hope. Indie kids will love the music references, geeks will appreciate the awkwardness of growing up, saps will eat up the love story... there's something for everyone in this book. Be prepared to cry, though.
