The fist book borrowed from my new library in Champaign. Technically, I didn't check it out. . .and I set off the detectors. . .but I suppose they will not fine me :)

It was good, but not great. I look forward to someday reading the sequels, since it seemed like just the start of something interesting.

Nothing in it is particularly YA, so I suggest that everyone get it for their library. There is a sticker on our copy that says "Best YA Books of the Decade 1997-2007" I am not sure who created that list. Loved it! Only. . .It got me wondering about why every book has to be a "book one." I think authors have lost the art of creating one book for youth. Everything has to be created with a sequel in mind now-a-days. An example of one that is like this is Nancy Farmer's "House of the Scorpion."
