Perfectly serviceable teenage angst novel, with a Franch existential slant. Created a furore when first published and described as pornographic, couldn't see that myself although it is explicit it is not gratuitiously so.

As always with Pamuk's work, Istanbul is a major character, and in fact the central story of an obsessional love could well be read as a metaphor for Pamuk's obsessional love for his home city.
