This book was really interesting. It's written from the perspective of a girl who is attacked and murdered. I found the ideas Sebold had about the afterlife unique. I really enjoyed seeing someone else's thoughts on that, and enjoyed her writing overall. This book was a quick read and a good story. However, if you don't like violence in books, or you don't want to read about attacks on little girls, don't read this book. The first few chapters were tough to get through for that reason. I don't even know if I'll be able to read it again now that I have a daughter. Just something to keep in mind. Again, a good book and story with excellent writing, just be aware of what you're going to be reading about.

I have to say, from what I'd heard about the Kite Runner, I expected to hate this book. I didn't. I became wrapped-up in the story and the characters, and I really couldn't put it down. In our book group, it generated a discussion ranging from the main character as a likeness of Christ to the main character representing all mistreated women. There were some scenes that were difficult to read about the abuse women expected and endured as part of their culture, so the book is not for the faint-hearted. However, if you are able to get through that, I think you arrive at a point where you see the strength of the women in the book, and that they are ultimately able to make choices for themselves. I found it very inspiring and hopeful, although many of the others in our group just thought it (especially the ending) was depressing and negative. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. =)

Unbelieveable that I have never actually read this book. I have seen the movie so many times. I am really curious about how the book will compare.

Well, I really enjoyed the book. I even read the first three in the series. They were very sweet and fun and easy to read. I would recommend them to anyone, especially fans of the movies. I think the books are so much richer in detail that it really helps complete the story.

I have read this book over and over. It is one of my favorites because of the strong female character of Elizabeth. Somehow, she walks the fine line between societal convention and free-spirited thinking with grace and humor. Through her experiences, she teaches us how to move past our pride to find something truly valuable. This is the novel to start with if you've never read Jane Austen.

Interesting and a quick read, but kind of lacking in character development. I also felt like the idea of the afterlife in this book was really bleak. That would have been OK if I had felt a connection with the characters.

This book was enjoyable because it's well-written, and the characterization is great. The main character, who is obsessed with his record collection and music in general, recounts his past and current experiences with the opposite sex, many of them in the context of Top 5 or Top 10 lists. It's somewhat predictable in that he finally figures out what he's been doing wrong and becomes a better "relationship" guy, but it isn't annoyingly so. A fun, easy read. NOTE: For my conservative friends, there is a LOT of language in this book. Don't read it if that offends you.
