Just as distinctive as I had expected from the author who wrote The Sky Is Everywhere. I have a lot of feelings -- one of them extreme tiredness because I was up late crying with/for these fantastic characters.
Jessie (Ageless Pages Reviews) is on page 310 of 448 of Dark Aemilia: I like Aemilia (and this)much more when there is less supernatural goings-on.

This is such an odd book, in an odd series. It is a story and style that reads like no other and I love seeing what Black dreams up next for her strange band.

So I can see what this book/author was trying to do here, but it just failed across the board for me.

This was Not Good. But it was dry, bland, and full of thoughts and actions that are unbelievable for the people supposedly voicing them.

I can see why so many people swear by this.... but I can also see why it's an incredibly problematic read for others. It's all down to personal preference, and though this book is made of things I love (time travel, historical fiction, complex charac...more

I am just full of emotions. The characters! The settings! THE CAMEOS. Stephanie Perkins captures teens -- and love -- so very, very well.

Rick Yancey
“But if I'm it, the last of my kind, the last page of human history, like hell I'm going to let the story end this way. I may be the last one, but I am the one still standing. I am the one turning to face the faceless hunter in the woods on an abandoned highway. I am the one not running but facing. Because if I am the last one, then I am humanity. And if this is humanity's last war, then I am the battlefield.”
Rick Yancey, The 5th Wave

Ann Aguirre
“The ship shudders as we make the leap, passing into grimspace. Pleasure spikes through me, as if I'm taking a hit of my favorite chem. It sings through my veins, echoing the mad whorl of colors outside the view screen. If I had to describe it, I'd say it's like entering the heart of a dying star.”
Ann Aguirre, Doubleblind

Rosamund Hodge
“You deserve all that and more. It made me happy to see you suffer. I would do it all over again if I could." I realized I was shaking as the words tumbled out of me. "I would do it again and again. Every night I would torment you and laugh. Do you understand? You are never safe with me." I drew a shuddering breath, trying to will away the sting of tears.

He opened his eyes and stared up at me as if I were the door out of Arcadia and back to the true sky. "That's what makes you my favorite." He reached up and wiped a tear off my cheek with his thumb. "Every wicked bit of you.”
Rosamund Hodge, Cruel Beauty

Amy McNamara
“I came here because it's pine-dark and the ocean is wild. The kind of quiet-noise you need when there's too much going on in your head. Like the water and the woods are doing all the feeling, and I can hang out, quiet as a headstone, in a between place. A blank I can bear.”
Amy McNamara, Lovely, Dark and Deep

R.L. LaFevers
“And just as love has two sides, so too does Death. While Ismae will serve as His mercy, I will not, for that is not how He fashioned me.
Every death I have witnessed, every horror I have endured, has forged me to be who I am -- Death's justice.”
R.L. LaFevers, Dark Triumph
