I liked this! There were some odd sentences, the odd shift from 3rd person to first for different characters, the "prank" angle seemed like a flimsy excuse to give the characters a reason to hang out...

But Banks sells it. It helps that the light

3 - 3.5?

I am not sure. It was good, and had moments of near-greatness, but too dry and way way waaaaaay too long. For me, it was also overhyped.

I had a lot of hope for this because I'd loved Mitchell's short stories. However, this was pretty dull and tried way, waaaay too hard.

I may continue the series since I own it, but disappointing.

So this is not bad. At all.

It's also, obviously, not Uprooted or even similar. I could have dealt with that juuust fine (alternative history with dragons being used in the Napoleonic Wars? I practically had heart-eyes) but I never really felt much. I

“But if I'm it, the last of my kind, the last page of human history, like hell I'm going to let the story end this way. I may be the last one, but I am the one still standing. I am the one turning to face the faceless hunter in the woods on an abandoned highway. I am the one not running but facing. Because if I am the last one, then I am humanity. And if this is humanity's last war, then I am the battlefield.”
