North of Beautiful by Justina Chen
" I've been thinking about this book for a few weeks now and decided I needed to re-read it and give it a better review since the one I wrote before didn't do it much justice.
I loved this book, even more so the second time around. True, it's got mo... " Read more of this review »

" Listen up people! There is a reason why this book has so many raving reviews, it is simply gorgeous. When I finished it I actually sat for a whole 30 minutes in the same exact spot thinking about the book, and all that I took from it. That's how g... " Read more of this review »

yes, the whole speaks-to-dead people plot line has been explored to death, but I had a few genuine laugh-out-loud moments reading this. I really liked Clement-Moore's "Texas Gothic" and hope that we get to hear more about the Goodnight clan in future...more

Saving June by Hannah Harrington
" It’s hard to put my finger on exactly why I failed to connect with this book. Is it because I’m the oldest sibling and I don’t know what it’s like to be the rebellious younger sister? Is it because I’m just too damn old? Is it because, even when I... " Read more of this review »

Reading this book felt a little bit like watching an after school special. A really good, beautiful, touching after school special. It was hard to connect with the grief/constantly lashing out of the characters, but it was still a good read.

Raw Blue by Kirsty Eagar
This was more of a 3.5 than 4 stars for me but I believe in rounding up. I liked the writing, but I wanted MORE to be done with the plot. Some characters seemed like place holders, and the events that acted as catalysts for plot development didn't se...more

“He was not used to being at a loss. Usually, he was the gentleman with the plan. Every little detail cataloged and put in its place. But now he had no place, and the details were everywhere.”
Lish McBride, Necromancing the Stone

“...My friend, there are some things that I cannot tell you. Some I will tell you in time; some, others will tell you; some you may never know, or you may be the first to find the answers.”
Robin McKinley, The Blue Sword

Lish McBride
“On top of all that, you're naked. And while I'm going to hate myself for this later, could you put on some clothes? At least just for a little while, so I can think. Then you can go right back to being naked. All the time. With my full blessing.”
Lish McBride, Hold Me Closer, Necromancer

Lish McBride
“Twinkle the Destroyer wasn't alone, it seemed. There were more gnomes than I thought. Pip the Bringer of Pain, Chauncey the Devourer of Souls, Cuddly the Inexplicable, Gnoman Polanski, Pith the Bitey, Gnome ChompSky, Gnomie Malone, Chuck the Norriser- the list went on.
'It's like a mishmash of violent imagery, TV, an political references'
'I told you they like TV. I'm not sure the understand everything they see, though, so they don't fully grasp what they're stealing their names from. Like, I think Gnome ChompSky just thought it sounded tough and Chuck the Norriser came from watching too many episodes of Walker, Texas Ranger. They believe Chuck Norris is a demigod'
'Who doesn't?”

“Most people felt lost after high school. Sometimes I felt like I'd never really been found in the first place.”
