This the the sequel to Four and Twenty Blackbirds, which I enjoyed, but this one was even better. The book's main character is Eden. She can see dead people but wishes she couldn't. How that came to be is in the previous book, this one focuses on her using her abilities to get to the bottom of a local legend. What makes this books particularly great for me is that they are set in Chattanooga, TN which is where I grew up. So I have to admit that some of the appeal is the references (an occasional inside jokes) to the places I used to go to. It's fun to have a horror novel set in a park that I used to picnic at in high school. The legend she investigates is a real legend that gets added to all the time with people sneaking onto the battlefield at ni8ght and claiming to see "Old Green Eyes." So I honestly have no idea if this book would be as much fun for someone else, but if you do read them, it's fun to know that you can go to Chattanooga and see the actual places where the book's events take place....less

I was trying to find new stuff for an 11 year old girl to read who had just started pulling books from the YA department, and I suggested "The Wee Free Men" by Terry Pratchett. As soon as I mentioned blue Scottish pixies, she was sold on the book, and then she recommended "Now You See It" to me. She liked it very much, and it does indeed have some small blue pixies in it that are very similar to the Nac Mac Feegle. It's a little short (I finished in about 2 hours), and maybe a little simple in places, but it's a fun read, especially for the terminally uncool who are currently in or remember high school. ...less
