Dead Ever After

Sue's Recent Updates

Sue is currently reading:
Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris
Sue rated a book 3 of 5 stars
Literary Rogues by Andrew Shaffer
I would call this a mildly entertaining literary history. It was kind of fun to trace the history of writing through its wayward authors, but it wasn't very deep or compelling reading.

The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka
The Buddha in the Attic
by Julie Otsuka
read in May, 2013
Otsuka writes in beautiful, spare prose that packs in so much more story than the book's short length would suggest. Definitely a great One Book choice.

The Smart One by Jennifer Close
The Smart One
by Jennifer Close (Goodreads Author)
read in April, 2013
I enjoyed Close's other book, "Girls in White Dresses," so when this book came in to the library I decided to give it a try. It was an easy read about the millenial's predicament: moving back home with parents in order to survive tough times and the...more

Defending Jacob by William Landay
Defending Jacob
by William Landay (Goodreads Author)
read in April, 2013
I wavered between three and four stars on this one. It was very readable and you could tell Landay had been a lawyer, the court scenes were so bang on. In the book, the narrator's son is accused of murdering a classmate. A former ADA, the narrator is...more

Anne Morrow Lindbergh
“When you love someone, you do not love them all the time, in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love, of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in terror its ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration, on continuity; when the only continuity possible, in life as in love, is in growth, in fluidity - in freedom, in the sense that the dancers are free, barely touching as they pass, but partners in the same pattern.

The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping, even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what was in nostalgia, nor forward to what it might be in dread or anticipation, but living in the present relationship and accepting it as it is now. Relationships must be like islands, one must accept them for what they are here and now, within their limits - islands, surrounded and interrupted by the sea, and continually visited and abandoned by the tides.”
Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Gift from the Sea

Bernard M. Baruch
“Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.”
Bernard M. Baruch

Sylvia Plath
“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”
Sylvia Plath

Mary Oliver
“...there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do --
determined to save
the only life you could save.”
Mary Oliver

Jane Austen
“Run mad as often as you choose, but do not faint!”
Jane Austen, Love and Freindship
