This is one of the first books I read that I actually loved reading. Vonnegut's writing style deconstructs the novel format and completely rearranges it. It's a wonderful satire of working life, day-to-day minutia, married life, ego, and class (with a little bit of over-population criticism, since it's a Vonnegut book). Breakfast of Champions is one of my favorite books, and I recommend it to anyone.

I read this because every time my someone found out that I used to work at the Post Office, they would tell me to read this book. So I did. Not that impressed. I kept going through it to find out what would happen, but not much did. Just a lot of working, drinking, and highly implausible sexual encounters. Maybe because this was written back in the 60's by a woman-hating alcoholic, that's why Henry Chinaski is able to lay every woman he comes across. The tedium of the job is there, but it's a lot different now.

I almost want to write the antidote to this book so I feel like I at least read it for a reason.

A really fun take on Armageddon, Good and Evil, Religion, Mythology, Adventure, and general Britishness. I was actually surprised to find out that this book was written back in 1990, save for the tape-player, the book does not feel dated at all S. Some of the jokes are a little clunky, but it is a very funny book. Well worht the read, even if you've not read anything by the authors previously.

A nice romance story, but it hasn't piqued my interest to re-read it. Definitely more exotic and emotional than the film.

Steve Martin's memior of his stand-up career is a fascinating insight into not only the process of the man who used to be the world's most famous comedian, but also how a career can develop. The introduction is a little prententious in it's assertions and many incredible stories are glossed over in a few lines, but it does keep your attention all the way through the suprisingly short read.

By no means a primer for success, it does succeed at portraying stand-up and comedy itself as a real artform. The final few pages are really touching, though I felt they had to be to save my opinion of the author. Martin's first few pages, and several impersonable passages throughout, do nothing to foster a positive opinion. In the end, however, you feel for him. Even after he has become a sensation across the country, you can empathized with his flawed, lonely life.

I recommend this to all my comedy friends, and to anyone interested in how hard you have to work to be funny.
