Since I'm a big Fables fan and fondly remember Cain and Abel (House of Secrets and House of Mystery) from Sandman, I was looking forward to this new series. However, I was a bit let-down - the main storyline seems a little weak, and the tales from various bar patrons were of varying quality. However, some of the art, including the covers by Sam Weber and panels by Steve Rolston, was very striking, and I enjoyed the main artist's (Luca Rossi) panels as well. The tales about the bride of a fly and a witch in San Francisco were by turns chilling and funny. I watched an odd little film that I DVR'd a few weeks ago - Midnight Movie. I figured it was an '80's flick, but turns out it's from 2008. It's the saga of a killer who basically pops out of the screen of a slasher flick to get the people who are watching the movie. There's elements of Texas Chainsaw, Freddy, and a dash of Hostel - in other words, this movie is a mishmash.
