I love this series! It seems like each one is better than the last. The Ghostwalkers series is so full of suspense and action. The Ghostwalkers are a group of genetically and psychically enhanced super soldiers. They have been created by an "evil scientist" so to speak, who preforms cruel psychological experiments on them and subjects them to unspeakable punishments.
This book focuses on Ken Norton, the twin brother of Jack, who was featured in the previous book. Ken was set up by the evil Dr. Whitney to go on a fake rescue mission in the Congo to save a U.S. Senator. He was basically delivered into the hands a sadistic rebel leader and heinously tortured before Jack could save him.
Now horribly disfigured, Ken is back in the US, an on a mission to protect the very Senator that helped Dr. Whitney set him up. During the mission, they encounter another group of super soldiers, and it is clear that this is another set up. They are able to take hostage the other groups sniper, a female Ghostwalker named Marigold, the twin sister of Jack's wife, Briony. When it becomes clear Dr. Whitney is setting up both sides, Ken, Mari, Jack, and other members of the Ghostwalkers team go on a mission to save the other women in the compound she grew up and was trained at.
This one is a nail biter to the very end! Christine Feehan writes awesome thrillers! The romance is a little... well actually a lot explicit, probably more detail than I would really care for, but other I love her books!...less

I loved this one, I think it was the best of the whole series so far! It was really packed with adventure and drama. I could barely put it down! I loved this one so much more than the first.
*spoiler alert* I am so relieved that Bella finally seems to be weighing the consequences of becoming one of the "eternally damned". It was something so I thought she was be so flippant about that it really bothered me in the first two books. I almost leapt with joy when she kissed Jacob, not because she was kissing Jacob, but because for
the first time she really was seeing what she was giving up. Her humanity, her family, her ability to have life beyond her own. That decision should not come so easily to her, no matter how much she loves Edward. I mean come on, giving up your humanity, for all of eternity? That's definately something that merits a little more hesitation and thought than she was initially putting into it.
So now, even though she still seems to be set on the course of becoming a vampire, it's a relief that Bella is finally thinking about something other than constantly being fixated on Edward and how beautiful he is. There were two things that really stood out and grabbed my attention in this book. When Alice was explaining to to Bella why the Volturi and Edward could not use their abilities on her, but Jasper and Alice can. Alice said "You are safe inside your mind". That somehow seems important to me and will be something we will be learning more about.
The second - Jacobs analogy to Edward being her drug, and Jacob being her sun and her air. This is what I have always thought, and although I don't see it in terms of Edward as bad and Jacob as good. I think they both, obviously, have serious drawbacks for her. With Edward, she gives up literally everything to have an uncertain (uncertain in the way that, she can't really know for sure if she will be able to control herself as a vamp) future with him. With Jacob, she runs the risk of him imprinting on someone else and finding herself in the same situation as Leah Clearwater. During the last few chapters of this book, I felt myself thinking, what I would really like to eventually happen, is to see Bella suddenly snap out of it. Snap out of this fantasy world and realize no matter how much she loves both of them, her future isn't viable with either one.
I am super anxious for Breaking Dawn now. ...less

I loved learning more about Jacob in this book. I really loved his fun a free spirited nature. He was a breath of fresh air after a slow start to this book. He became considerably darker after the change, which I found dissapointing.
Again, like in the first book, Bella sometimes ruins for me this series which I might otherwise love completely. Why is she so one dimensional? When she is with Edward, she is blindly devoted to him, with barely any consideration to any other aspect of her life. When he leaves, she becomes despondent for months, neglecting anyone and everyone to wallow in her misery. She only begins to re-awaken when she finds another boy to fill the void. Her whole life and happieness is dependent on the boy in it.
I just so wish she was a more complex independant young woman. ...less

I decided to stop about halfway through on this one, it was too dark and sad. It's about two children, brother and sister, during the industrial revolution, who are abandoned at a workhouse by their mother, and are eventually sold to work at a farm. They live a hellish existance, enslaved and abused, but are able to narrowly escape with their lives one night.
Their goal is to get to Manchester, the last know whereabouts of their mother. Along the way they find people who help them, but also people who take advantage of them and try, and succeed in some cases, to exploit them. The brother is angry and mean to almost the point of abusiveness towards his younger sister, and at one point even abandons her. He constantly is having thoughts of being violent and killing people.
I kept waiting for his redeeming qualities to surface to make all the depair worth reading, but it just wasn't happening and I had enough. ...less

I am somewhat conflicted on how I feel about this book. On one hand, I read it fairly quickly, and want to read the others. And I love the vampire genre. On the other... well it just doesn't sit well with me how a teenage girl is willing to give up everything for all eternity, for her first love, without barely even considering her family to become something inhuman and dangerous.
In the begining I really didn't understand Bella's attraction to Edward. He was flat out mean and scary. Yet she was obsessed with him. Constantly looking for him at school. Why? What, given their first meeting, could of possibly enamored her to him, beyond his looks? And it's not that I dislike Edward, I actually grew to like him over the course of the book, except for one thing... his dominant male need to protect the poor helpless daft little woman. Not that that was even all him, it was their dynamic. She played into it just as much as he did.
I just imagine something different, I suppose. Edward is such a strong personality and dynamic character, that I just can't see him with Bella, who seems just shallow and selfish. I would imagine him with a much stonger willed female protagonist. Someone who would maybe wrestle a little more with the idea of getting involved with someone who was potentially dangerous for her. I mean it was ridiculous. She takes a walk in the woods, decided it didn't matter, and from that point on was blindly devoted to him.
Then there is the relationship with her father. It seemed at first that the author was leading into that being a sub plot of the book. But it didn't go anywhere and that was kind of dissappointing. Charlie seems vulnerable and unsure of how to have a closer relationship with his daughter. Bella seemed to be in tune to this, but did little to nothing to reach out to him. When it came to Charlie, it seemed her goal was avoiding him and hiding things from him.
So I guess overall it wasn't the book I disliked. It was Bella. I very much liked the other characters, especially the Cullens, and Jacob Black. I am very interested to know more about Jacob. I really enjoyed the last 100 pages where the action picked up, and wish their had been more of that. ...less

I like this series more with each book. I really enjoyed this last installment. The protagonist, Maggie O'Neill is starting to get a little gumption and I think that's part of the reason I did not like the first book. She was so put upon by her mother, her sister, and her love interest, and it was frustrating for me that she wouldn't stand up for herself. She seems to be becoming a little more confident, and comfortable with who she is, so I am glad to see that. Because of Maggie's personal developments in this book, I am anxious to read the next in the series.
