I was really taken with this book, I read it in 8 hours. It gripped me right from the beginning. I found the heroine to be indomitable and resourceful. I found her friends to be admirable. Plus, there is the the romantic angle. I thought Gale's & Katniss's agreement was if one of them was selected the other would take care of their family. I thought Katniss would have hated Gale if he volunteered; then there would have been no one looking out for her mother & sister. I do think Gale isn't as fully developed. I think that Katniss grew a lot in the second book realizing how much she owed Peeta and determined to pay him back. I actually like Catching Fire better because Katniss seems to have matured and be more sympathetic. I have no idea where she will take the next book though.
