I had a hard time judging if Strauss was taking this project seriously for the first half of the book - the writing seemed somehow distant from the character of himself. Perhaps it's because of how different his mindset appears to have become from when he started the project to when he finished, but the last half of the book is an easier read than the first part.

Some good tips here and interesting musings on just how much people take for granted and don't want to think about what would happen if our modern conveniences suddenly weren't available. A book written in the same mode as "Salt" or "Stiff." It has some good information and nice tidbits, but it doesn't manage to have the same compelling storytelling.
