Swearing on something is idiotic anyway. The tradition is pointless. Either you're an honest person and will do things honestly, so you don't need to swear on something, or you're a dishonest person and swearing on something will not influence you to be more honest. It is simply a silly formality.

This makes absolutely no sense at all. Perhaps you should reword it. Breaking a tradition because it conflicted with your morals would be a great reason to break the tradition. Not that one even needs a reason. There needs to be a legitimate reason for performing/engaging in a particular a tradition. There doesn't need to be a reason for not performing/engaging in a particular tradition.
