I wanted to like it a lot more than I did. The world is richly built, and the characters in the present-day frame story are excellent -- I can't wait to read the story of Kvothe meeting Bast in future books.

Unfortunately, the backstory tended to meander, and as much as I loved Rothfuss' descriptions and dialogue, there were times I found myself skimming ahead looking for something to happen.

This was the best book I read in 2008.

I loved the worldbuilding and the rules of magic within -- what else would you offer the spirits of the London Underground, besides a book of crossword puzzles, a pack of gum and a trashy romance novel?
