“Like all failed experiments, that one taught me something I didn’t expect: one key ingredient of so-called experience is the delusional faith that it is unique and special, that those included in it are privileged and those excluded from it are missing out.”
A Visit from the Goon Squad
“The more familiar two people become, the more the language they speak together departs from that of the ordinary, dictionary-defined discourse. Familiarity creates a new language, an in-house language of intimacy that carries reference to the story the two lovers are weaving together and that cannot be readily understood by others.”
Alain de Botton,
“To be loved by someone is to realize how much they share the same needs that lie at the heart of our own attraction to them. Albert Camus suggested that we fall in love with people because, from the outside, they look so whole, physically whole and emotionally 'together' - when subjectively we feel dispersed and confused. We would not love if there were no lack within us, but we are offended by the discovery of a similar lack in the other. Expecting to find the answer, we find only the duplicate of our own problem.”
Alain de Botton,
“Two old people in a room devoid of furniture, steam rising from their teacups. They were motionless and expressionless. Waiting for something. I wish I could go into their room and sit down with them. I'd give them my Rolex for that. I wish they would smile, and pour me a cup of jasmine tea. I wish the world was like that.”

We're Filipinos who love to read anything we get our hands on, and who love to meet to discuss these things we read. GR-TFG has been around the web since 2009, and started monthly face to face book discussions (F2F / F2FBD) in 2012. Members of the group range from all ages and come from all places, but we all come together for the love of the written word. We love making friends as much as we love reading and hoarding books, and you will definitely find a kindred spirit in the group once you attend your first meet-up. :)
So if you're a Filipino and you love to read --whether it's local, chick lit, romance, science fiction, fantasy, young adult, classics, general or literary fiction novels -- you are very welcome here! :) We do require you to enjoy books and reading when you join this group, but that's only because we can talk book for hours and we don't want you to feel out of place. Do drop by, say hi and show up on any of our face to face events -- we would love to get to know you. :)
P.S. Most of our discussions happen on Goodreads, but also have a Facebook group! :)...more
