Nate, I will be very impressed if you can teach Rodger how to read in less than a year. Let me know how that goes. In any case, he will soon be "a dog against the war."
I do love him! 50% of my tattoos come from Neil Gaiman. I do, indeed, know that's weird. What to read next would depend on the kind of commitment you want to make. The Sandman graphic novel series, as a whole, is one of the most amazing pieces of literature I've ever read. Novel-wise I'd go with either Neverwhere or Good Omens.
